Tom Lowder previously served as an Elder and Bible teacher at the Beijing International Christian Fellowship and over a 7-year period, God gave him a growing desire to begin a new congregation in the growing foreign community living north of Beijing. The BICF publicly endorsed, blessed and prayed for the new work as it was getting started in early spring 2003. On Sunday evening March 2, 2003, the Lowder family (Tom, Iris, Lewis & Logan) initiated a meeting attended by several new friends and families living in the Shunyi area, near the International Airport.
Several who came began gathering every Sunday evening to get better acquainted, share ideas and pray together. The congregation first met on Sunday morning on May 4, 2003 and attracted about 20 adults and 10 children. The group continued meeting each Sunday at one of several homes in the neighborhood. As a result of rapid growth, the congregation moved to several venues during the past 7 yrs. and currently meets in the Beijing Arts Exhibition Center.
